Often, rental car prices in Uganda are not offered as lump sum rates because they are requested for by travelers in different ways/ aspects; as one wants to hire a car for self-drive another is looking for a chauffeur for their trip. And while some Uganda car rental companies may include items like comprehensive insurance, unlimited mileage and more in their prices, others may not. All this can best be understood when you read the rental car policy of the company. However, these policies vary from one company to another and you are therefore advised to ask whatever is not clear to you.

As you plan to hire a car in Uganda for a self drive or driver-guide trip, here are the common rental car fees to check and avoid extra charges;
Fuel charges
One of the things you will do when you hire a car in Uganda is to sign up for a fuel policy of the company. It can either be full-to-full or less fuel policy. Full to full, as it says means that you will take the car with a full tank and return it with the same. And if the policy is the less fuel policy, then it means that you will return the car with just the amount of fuel that you found there. Make sure to understand the fuel policy and do as it says to avoid unnecessary extra costs.
Extra hours with the car
Car hire in Uganda is usually on the basis of 12 hours. In other words, when you rent a car for one day, it means that you will take it in the morning and return it in the evening on the same day. If you stay with the car up to the next day, then you will be charged for two days. You have to agree on how long to stay with the car with your service provider and if you are to have it for any extra hours, inform them in advance or else you pay a fine.
Different pick or drop off location
Most car rental companies have their main offices located in Kampala and Entebbe. According to their policies, clients are supposed to pick and drop rental cars from these areas. However, you can inform the car rental company beforehand if you are planning to pick or drop the car in a different location.
Renting a GPS
Are you planning to hire a car for a self drive trip in Uganda? There are travel items that are usually helpful for such adventures, for example a travel map and GPS. If you need to travel with any of these, consult the car rental company about the fee for renting the car with a GPS or travel map and be mindful about their security lest you pay high unplanned amount of money if you lose them.
