Detailed Primate safari itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to the hotel
Welcome to Uganda! You will arrive at the airport and be received by your safari driver. He/she will drive you to your booked hotel in Entebbe or Kampala. They will give a briefing on the safari including the program for the next day. Check in to your lodge, have dinner, and rest. Meal plan: dinner
Day 2: Transfer to Kibale
You will wake up at your leisure, have breakfast, meet your safari driver, and set off for Kibale. This is a journey of about 6 hours and you will have an en-route lunch in Fort Portal. This is a beautiful city with the King’s palace patched on one of the hills in town.
After having lunch, you will proceed to your booked lodge in Kibale or stay in Fort Portal for the overnight.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi swamp walk

After an early morning breakfast, you will head to Kanyanchu Tourist Centre for a briefing on chimp tracking. Enter the forest with a ranger guide to start searching for the apes. The trek can last from 2 to 3 hours depending on where the chimps are sighted. When you spot them, you will be allowed to stay there for an hour watching how they are going about their day. While in the forest, you could come across other residents such as the red colobus monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, L’Hoest’s monkey, and other mammals like the forest elephant.
You will return to the park offices, meet your safari guide, and transfer to your lodge for lunch. Have a short relaxation and later on head out for a guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This reserved site is great for bird watching and connecting with nature.
Return to the lodge for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi forest
After your morning breakfast at the lodge, you will check out and start the journey to Bwindi. This is another long but scenic drive from the western to the southwestern part of Uganda. It rewards with beautiful views of the craters, endless hills, and the greenery banana plantations.
You will have an en-route lunch, arrive at the lodge in the evening, check in have dinner, and rest.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest

On this 5 day of your safari, you will have an early morning breakfast at the lodge where you will also have some food packed for lunch just in case the trek stretches to the afternoon. You will arrive at the parking offices by 7:30 for a briefing on gorilla trekking. Meet your ranger guide and set off for the trek. They will lead you through the trails to locations where the gorillas are expected to be roaming. Once they are spotted, you will stay with them for a maximum of one hour and return to the park offices for your trekking certificates. From here, you will drive back to your lodge and rest.
Optional activity to do in the evening: visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience
Day 6: Transfer to Entebbe
Embark on the journey to Entebbe through Mbarara, Masaka, and other districts, with a stopover at Kayabwe for the equator experience: learn about the water experiment and stand in two hemispheres at the same time. You will arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening, and be dropped at your hotel or the airport.
