Arua is a city and commercial Centre within Arua district in the Northern Region of Uganda. Arua is the next busiest airport to Entebbe International Airport and is approximately 440km to the North West of Kampala and 195km to the West of Gulu. Arua District got its name from Arua town. In the late 1970s, the Ugandan president at the time Godfrey Binaisa declared that all districts acquire their names from their regional capital so that is how Arua district inherited the name from Arua town.,

Not only being the important base for non-government organizations, Arua is also a transport route for supplies into Juba. Arua has got so many attractions including the Kei and Wati mountains offering a mountain scenery as well as they are suitable for hiking, Ajai wildlife reserve and Kidepo National park with a variety of wildlife including the colobus monkey, white rhinos, leopards, baboons and many bird species that gather along the river banks of the Nile at Tangi gate. It has got many rivers for example Kochi River, Acha river, Ola river, and Enyau River with different fishing villages suitable for sport fishing. Arua has very many infrastructures including hospitals like Arua hospital, education institutions, UCU, Islamic University, Bugema University, MUBS, and Muni University, and also has around 30 accommodation establishments including desert breeze, pacific hotel to mention but a few for overnights and dinner.
