When you want to hire a car in Uganda, it is a wise idea to plan basing on the current car rental prices. If you were in Uganda say last year and are planning for another trip this season, simply forget about the previous car rental rates and check for new prices. And as your travel dates for that road trip, business trip or airport transfer get closer, have it in mind that the rates of rental cars change anytime due to different factors.
In this article, we bring you some of the things that determine car rental prices in Uganda;
Season
Car hire business is seasonal as there tends to be a high demand for rental cars during the peak season (December to February and June to September) and a lower demand during the low travel season (March to May and October to November). If you have plans to travel during the low season, you might enjoy cheap rental car services. And those traveling in the peak season should prepare for competitive car rental prices.
Time of booking
The earlier you reserve your rental car, the higher the chances of getting a good deal and vice versa. This is because early booking helps the service provider to prepare the car in advance or suggest a better deal, while booking at the last moment means that you will simply go with what is available which may cost you more especially if the type of car you wanted is not available.
Car age
If you are looking for a new rental car, then you would have to prepare more money than when you are willing to hire any car regardless of its age. Older cars are usually hired at lower rates and new cars at higher rates because their purchase prices increase every after about 5 years. Therefore, a car of about 10 years ago will have a significant difference in price compared to the newest car even if they are of the same brand.
Car brand and model
The brand and model of the car also determine its rental price. Cars manufactured in Germany, UK and the United States have higher car rental prices because they are mostly demanded by travelers who are cautious about quality; they are more reliable compared to cars manufactured in France, Japan, China and Russia. Car brands like Mercedes Benz are known to be one of the most expensive cars to hire in Uganda.
Car fuel consumption and engine
In Uganda, you will choose between renting a car that uses petrol or diesel. Diesel engine cars are more expensive to hire compared to petrol engine cars. They are proven to be more efficient using 15% to 20% less fuel than petrol engine cars. While diesel costs around UGX 4995, petrol costs around UGX 4999 currently.
Car type
The category of the car which may be a 4WD, minivan, SUV or a saloon car, highly determines the rental prices. 4WD cars are usually more expensive to hire compared to SUVs and saloon cars and this is because of the difference in their features. The RAV4 is a mid-size SUV which is also one of the most affordable 4X4 rental cars in Uganda.
Car pick up and drop off location
Most car rental companies have their offices located in Kampala and Entebbe and this is where clients are expected to pick and drop the rental cars. However, some clients may want to pick or drop them in a different location considering specific factors. This should be communicated to the service provider in advance so that they will prepare for it and it automatically affects the car rental price.
Company reputation
Car rental companies that are already well established and have a stable market usually charge higher prices for their rental cars compared to other companies. They already have a high demand for their car rental services because of a good background of trust and reliability.
