Go on a self drive trip around this unspoiled East African safari destination where the highest population of mountain gorillas reside, the Nile starts its journey and tasty fresh fruits are enjoyed throughout the year.
Are you planning to self drive Uganda this season and looking for exciting things to do while here? Check out some of the activities we recommended for your trip:

White water rafting
Most self driving travelers are usually adventurers who enjoy getting out of their comfort zones and engaging in difficult activities. If you are this kind of traveler, then whitewater rafting should be on your to-do list for your next Uganda road trip. The River Nile in Jinja is where white water rafting is done in Uganda. It has breathtaking rapids from grade 2 for the learners to grade 5 for expert rafters. If you are looking to thrillingly rush through the wild water rapids, then plan to go whitewater rafting in Jinja.
Hiking to Sipi Falls
Located in eastern Uganda, close to Mt. Elgon national park, Sipi is popularly known for its pretty set of waterfalls. The area is inhabited by coffee farmers through whose plantations hikers go while heading to the Sipi Falls. The falls offer a great background for photography while the locals host visitors for organic coffee tasting. Other exciting things to do at Sipi include abseiling and rock climbing.
Gorilla trekking
Before you can encounter the majestic mountain gorillas in Uganda, often you will trek through their natural habitats- Bwindi or Mgahinga forests. Whilst Bwindi Impenetrable national park is more popular for mountain trekking because of its high gorilla population, some visitors prefer to search for these apes in Mgahinga as it offers a more difficult hiking experience. Either way, trekking at the two destinations is always fun and fabulous.
Chimp tracking in Kibale forest
There are many places in Uganda where you can see chimpanzees but Kibale forest offers an extraordinary tracking experience. Situated in western Uganda, the tropical forest houses an incredible population of chimps which are easier to spot compared to other destinations in the region. Trekkers searching for chimps in Kibale usually have high chances of encountering other resident primate species plus attractive forest birds making the activity more interesting.
Bungee jumping
Another breathtaking activity to do while on self drive in Uganda and particularly when you visit Jinja is Bungee jumping. All you have to do is get ready to face your fears because this is not for the faint-hearted. You will get tied with a rope around the waisdt and ankles, then jump from a platform raised about 44 meters above the Nile, take a leap over the Nile, swinging over until you stabilize and get received in the small boat.
The activity is limited to persons aged 13 years and above.
Lake Bunyonyi exploration
Take a road trip to the far southwestern corner of Uganda and enjoy every moment on Lake Bunyonyi and its surrounding. A more fun and local way to delight in this lovely destination is getting onto a dug-out wooden canoe to take you around the lake. The views of the volcanoes, islands, and hills are breathtaking. The calm water of Lake Bunyonyi is also very safe for swimming.
