Early booking
Pre-booking your rental car saves you higher costs of last minute booking and also gives you ample time to make research about the service provider you are dealing with. If you book for your car early enough and want a discount, your request would most likely be considered.

Thoroughly read the company travel policy

Before making payment for your rental car in Uganda, make sure to read through the travel policy of the car hire company and ask the service provider to highlight for you the things that are covered in the quotation. With this, you know what you are paying for and then can prepare for any extra costs of items that are not included yet required during your trip. And if it is possible, they can still include more of the things you need if requested, but at an extra cost.

Check for insurance details

Prior to signing the car rental contract with your service provider, first check if it covers insurance. When hiring a car in Uganda, it is advisable to go for one that includes insurance in the contract. Such a business deal keeps you content during travel. On the other side, if insurance is not included in the contract, ask whether you can have it be covered using your credit card.

Fueling: do it at a trusted local gas station

One of the things that will allow you have a smooth trip is refueling your rental car at trusted gas stations. Most of these gas stations may have higher prices of each liter but it is worth it if you don’t want to have any issues with your car. Gas stations that are popularly known for genuine services in Uganda include Shell, city oil and Total. Your service provider may advise on any others.
It is advisable to fuel your car to full tank in Kampala if you are travelling to remote areas. This is because fuel is more expensive out of town and even much more expensive within national parks.

Know the details of GPS availability
If you are hiring a car for self drive, find out if it comes along with a GPS. And if not, hire one to avoid wastage of time while trying to inquire about directions. An alternative for a GPS is a Garmin or Tom Tom map since they are updated.

Save the contacts of the car hire company
Make sure to have the contacts of your service provider so close and easy to access. Keep in touch with them both prior to and during the trip. And in case of any issues or queries, feel free to communicate to them.
